Marjorie de Muynck, M. Mus., MSOM, Hon.,
Creator of Ohm Therapeutics
November 25, 1952 - January 25, 2011
Born into a musical family, Marjorie de Muynck’s interest in tuning forks, sound and vibration was awakened at an early age. Marjorie first held a tuning fork in 1963 to tune her guitar, and then began applying the sound vibration to her own body—a sign of things to come. Marjorie was re-introduced to healing with tuning forks in 1981 from the piano player in her band after suffering from migraine headaches.
Marjorie’s eclectic mix of experience as a musician, composer, recording artist, healing arts practitioner and educator, combined with her scientific understanding of vibration and sound, led her to create Ohm Therapeutics™ Sound Healing, a comprehensive vibrational healing system which combines the application of Ohm Tuning Forks and other sound healing tools with music composed in the healing frequency of Ohm. In 2008, Marjorie’s latest book, Sound Healing: Vibrational Healing with Ohm Tuning Forks, a practical application manual with DVD was published by Lemniscate Music.
Marjorie’s medicinal interest in Sound Healing and tuning forks coalesced in 1995 when she co-founded the Kairo’s Institute of Sound Healing, and co-developed the Acutonics® sound healing system and co-authored the textbook, There’s No Place Like Ohm, Sound Healing, Oriental Medicine and the Cosmic Mysteries. Marjorie co-developed a healing treatment called Harmonic Attunement®, which incorporates the use of cosmically tuned symphonic gongs, tuning forks, didgeridoos, rattles, Tibetan bowls and bells. Marjorie also studied Huichol Shamanism with Brant Secunda for six years.
As a graduate of the ISIS School of Massage in 1983, Marjorie was a part of an early movement of professionals who helped to create certification standards for Massage Practitioners. As a prodigious student, practitioner and instructor of alternative healing modalities, Marjorie attended and graduated from the Seattle Shiatsu Institute (1983-1986) and has now studied Oriental Medicine for over 25 years. She taught Shiatsu, Hara Diagnosis, Kundalini Yoga, Reiki and Sound Healing at the Northwest Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine for 6 years.
In 1983 Marjorie co-created an On-Site Shiatsu business for King County and the City of Seattle, which she owned and operated for 17 years. Her treatments incorporated Sound Healing with tuning forks. During this period Marjorie also performed Native American flute on world renowned yoga teacher Ana forest’s DVD Strength and Spirit. A founding member in 1987 of the world touring Billy Tipton Memorial Saxophone Quartet, and a composer for the film Crocodile Tears, Marjorie has a rich background as a musician and composer.
Since 2000 Marjorie has been pioneering musical compositions in the key of Ohm: There’s No Place Like Ohm Volumes 1 & 2 (Lemniscate Music, 2002 & 2005), In the Key of Earth (Sounds True, 2007), and Vibrational Healing Music (Sounds True, March 2009). Each of these Sound Healing recordings are in what has become Marjorie’s signature tuning of Ohm.
Marjorie is a Master of Music in Music Education, Boston University, and a graduate of Seattle Shiatsu Institute. In 2011, Marjorie received an Honorary Degree of Master of Science in Oriental Medicine from Southwest Acupuncture College, Santa Fe, NM.
